Anjela has immersed herself in the world of Middle Eastern dance and music since she first encountered the art. A lifelong lover of language, culture, and art, Anjela was moved to tears by an emotional flamenco performance she witnessed in Spain while studying abroad for her Spanish degree. In Middle Eastern dance, Anjela revels in a similar expressiveness, and delights in its juxtaposition of heavy percussion and graceful, flowing movements.

The majority of Anjela’s training has been with Mirah Ammal. She has also studied with Margo Abdo O’Dell, Amina Beres, Toha, and Aliyah Sahar. While living in Chicago, she studied at the Jasmin Jahal School of dance, where she took Egyptian style bellydance classes with Jasmin Jahal, and took both Egyptian style and American Tribal Style classes with Christina King of the Blue Lotus Tribe. She also took classes and workshops with Sonya at Arabesque Studio, and with Miss Taj in Evanston.

Anjela returned to Minneapolis in 2008, where she has continued to study and to charm audiences with her beautiful dance performances. Currently she is a featured dancer at Ansari’s Mediterranean Grill in Eagan, Minnesota. She is also a performer with Al-Bahira Middle Eastern Dance Theater.

Anjela has had the wonderful opportunity to take workshops from notable dancers such as Diana Tarkhan of Cairo, Aisha Ali, Artemis Mourat, Karim Nagy, Dalia Carella, Ruby Jazayre, Tempest, Heather Stants of Urban Tribal, Kimahri, Leila Gamal, and several others.

Anjela is a former member of the dance troupes P.U.R.E. Chicago and Basimah Kamar.
